Tamara J. Merchant-McCambry, MDDr. Tamara Merchant-McCambry was born in Manhattan, NY but raised on the small Caribbean Island of Antigua. Dr. Merchant-McCambry graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY with a double major in Biology and Anthropology. She attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where she received her medical degree in 1999. Upon completing her General Surgery Residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois in 2004, Dr. Merchant-McCambry chose to pursue a specialization in Colon and Rectal Surgery. In June 2005, Dr. Merchant-McCambry completed her Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, NY. Her special areas of interest are Inflammatory Bowel Diseases such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Of equal interest to Dr. Merchant-McCambry is the management of colorectal and anal pathologies that affect HIV/AID's patients. She also manages common anorectal pathogies such as fissures, abscesses, fistulas and hemorrhoids. Dr. Merchant-McCambry also performs the Colonoscopy procedure, which is very useful in the screening and diagnosing of colon and rectal cancers among other colorectal pathologies. She also has experience in minimally invasive techniques such as Laparoscopic Surgery as well as the Procedure for Prolapsing Hemorrhoids (PPH).
