J. Chris Connaughton, MD

Dr. J. Chris Connaughton received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech in 1988. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia, receiving his Masters of Science in Anatomy in 1994. Dr. Connaughton went on to receive his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1998. He completed his residency in General Surgery in 2003 at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Connaughton served one year as General Surgery staff at Wilford Hall Medical Center, and subsequently completed fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery in 2004-2005. He is currently board certified in both General and Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Connaughton has been a staff Colon and Rectal Surgeon at Wilford Hall Medical Center from 2005-2010. During which time he has done two tours at the Theater Hospital in Balad, Iraq and one tour at Forward Base Salerno, Afghanistan. Dr. Connaughton now joins the San Antonio Colon and Rectal Clinic with extensive experience in Colon and Rectal surgery, but with specific interest in laparoscopic colon surgery, endoscopy, surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease, and the evaluation and treatment of constipation and fecal incontinence.
